Approaching Christmas

Amidst the throngs of shoppers, and the tinsel, garland, lights, trees, and all the activities swirling around this holiday season it is nice to remember that there is a simplicity in remembering this is all about the birth of Jesus, and the fulfillment of our hope. As I sat in church today i was so glad to hear these words….. the sense of hope, of there being an order to this life, and a purpose for it

Oh, come, our Wisdom from on high,
Who ordered all things mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show,
and teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, oh, come, our Lord of might,
Who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times gave holy law,
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come O Rod of Jesse’s stem,
From ev’ry foe deliver them
That trust your mighty pow’r to save;
Bring them in vict’ry through the grave.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

Oh, come, O Key of David, come,
And open wide our heav’nly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!

What am I really trying to say? It is Christmas and whether it is a sparkling and lavish year for your, or one of struggles and hard times, know that the hope is not in what is under the tree or on the table. The hope is in the one who loves you most. Celebrate Jesus’s birth by remembering there is a hope, there is a plan, and we are all a loving part of his great works.
